One year with Greys gr80 streamflex

In December 2020 I had the opportunity to get my hand on new Greys gr80 streamflex. Before I fished a lot with gr70 9ft #3. New gr80 10ft #3 was a great step up.Mostly I used it for dry fly fishing and french nymphing. I expected a little bit faster rod but the performance surprised me at my first fishing trip. While french nymphing for grayling i hook a giant 72cm over 6 kilo brown trout on a 0.12mm tippet. Fight lasted over 10 minutes and gr80 was working perfectly till the end. So the power of this light rod designed in England is obvious. I think the real classification of this rod is moderate to fast, Greys classified to medium fast action . While fishing for grayling I noticed that the reactivity of this rod is crazy good if you take in consideration its length and strength. The rod itself is not heavy (98gr), feels comfortable while fishing and looks good. I must admit I didn't cast crazy distances with this rod because I mostly fished french nymphing but 15 to 20 meters cast with a good accuracy is not a problem at all. We had a crazy time this year with beautiful 53cm grayling and 62cm and 72cm brown trout. All in all, the gr80 streamflex will stay as one of my favorite rods in 2021 with its moderate fast action. The gr80 series offers a wide and eclectic range of products for less than 350£.
